Everyone knows it: You're away for a few days or on a business trip, come home and immediately notice that you forgot to close the coffee bag. Now your coffee doesn't taste the same as before...but why is that? And how should you store coffee properly? We'll tell you!
How NOT to store your coffee
First of all: coffee does not belong in the fridge! Fellow roasters like to write it on the packaging - please keep in the fridge - but not us. Coffee definitely does not belong in the fridge!
Coffee actually attracts odors and moisture that are present in the refrigerator. Not only does it attract these, but they are also "stored" in the coffee, which significantly affects the taste. Whether the light is actually off then remains to be clarified.
It is also well known that you should not store your coffee pack in the sun or in hot environments. The heat causes the beans to sweat and react - if that happens, you can actually order a new pack straight away.
You shouldn't freeze coffee either - why would you? Most coffee packs are 250g , so it makes much more sense to use them up and keep your order intervals short so that the coffee is always fresh. The best way to do this is to use our coffee subscription or order from us regularly (free shipping!).
Storing coffee properly - this is how you should do it!
The best thing to do is to store your coffee bags with tea, flour or pasta - protected from light, at room temperature and of course dry. A tin is not a must - but you can use it. You have to make sure that it can be sealed airtight.
Our coffee bags from Kaffeeheimat also have resealable zippers - so you can easily and conveniently keep your coffee in our coffee packaging and enjoy it from time to time. You can find your favorite coffee here - in our online shop .
What you should know about storing coffee
Unfortunately, coffee loses its aroma very quickly as soon as it reacts with oxygen - that is, as soon as you open the bag. Coffee beans can therefore be used for a maximum of 8 weeks, and ground coffee for just 14 days!
This means: buy small units, order more often and always grind freshly at home - this way you can enjoy your favorite coffee for as long as possible. After opening, seal the bag airtight with the zipper and put it to one side in a dry place, protected from light.
Our tip:
If stored incorrectly, coffee can quickly go rancid. If you notice a musty smell and stale taste, you can be almost certain that the coffee is either very old or has already come into contact with water. In this case, you should get a new bag of coffee as soon as possible - preferably fresh coffee beans from our coffee homeland!
