KOFFEEHEIMAT x FRENCH PRESS - our tips & tricks for using the French Press
1. WHY GOOD COFFEE IS IMPORTANT WITH THE FRENCH PRESS!
Basically, you should make sure that you buy high-quality coffee, especially with the French press. The constant contact between the coffee powder and water ensures an intensive extraction of the coffee aromas. Of course, the oils in the coffee beans also come into contact with the water and are partially transferred. So if you use burnt, oily coffee beans, numerous oils can end up in your coffee, which spoils the taste and also causes stomach problems.
2. WHY YOU SHOULD GRIND YOUR COFFEE BEANS FRESHLY!
Especially when preparing with a French press, you should grind your coffee beans fresh before brewing. This way you won't lose any aromas and you can really feel the intense taste of your coffee in the cup - especially when preparing full immersion coffee, pre-ground coffee from a bag can greatly influence and minimize the intensity of the cup profile.
3. WHAT IS THE CORRECT GRINDING LEVEL?
The general rule is: the longer the coffee powder and water are in contact, the coarser the grind must be. Since there is permanent contact between water and coffee powder when making coffee with a French press, the grind must be medium to coarse for perfect extraction. Of course, personal preferences in the cup profile, as well as the brewing time and the coffee itself also play a role here.
4. WHICH COFFEE IS SUITABLE FOR THE FRENCH PRESS?
Of course, you know best which coffee you like best - in principle, any gently roasted coffee of good quality can be prepared with the French Press. However, we recommend preparing single-origin coffee specialties with the Bodum pot, because the intensive extraction of the coffee flavor means that original and country-specific characteristics can be easily found in the cup profile.
5. OUR COFFEE HOME TIP
If you have found the right coffee for you, your grind is optimal and you have discovered the right brewing time for you, then there is only one thing left to do: pour the prepared coffee from the French press into another container! The sieve in the Bodum pot basically separates the coffee powder and water, but unfortunately not completely, as it does when preparing with a hand filter. So that over-extraction does not occur and your coffee tastes the way you imagine it, you should pour your coffee. If you share your French press with friends and empty it completely, you can of course ignore our tip!
